Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has announced a PKR 140 million project aimed at enhancing the city’s main roads through a comprehensive beautification and traffic management initiative, according to news sources on November 6. The project, targeting Kachehri Chowk, Rashid Minhas Road, Murir Hasan, Murir Chowk, Murree Road, and Faizabad, seeks to improve pedestrian safety, streamline traffic flow, and upgrade public spaces.
The project includes constructing dedicated cycle tracks, setting up modern speed breakers, and adding zebra crossings at key intersections for pedestrian safety. Special poles will mark footpaths for pedestrians, barriers will be installed to prevent illegal road entry, and reflectors will enhance visibility.

In front of schools and colleges, honking will be banned to create quieter zones, while improved lighting will make routes safer for evening traffic. Additionally, renovations are planned for Moti Mahal and Committee Chowk underpasses on Murree Road, with height barriers set at eight feet to control vehicle entry.
RDA Director General Kanza Murtaza stated that this initiative will improve traffic flow and prevent accidents by enforcing traffic rules. In collaboration with the Municipal Corporation, the RDA is also targeting encroachments to ensure unobstructed footpaths for pedestrians.
Murtaza also highlighted ongoing improvements along the Saddar to Faizabad Metrobus corridor, which is expected to enhance the city’s infrastructure. Once completed, this comprehensive project aims to create a safer, more pedestrian-friendly environment in Rawalpindi’s bustling areas.
