The reduction in width would reduce the land acquisition requirement of the project from 1,289-kanal to just 700-kanal. According to the revised Project Concept-1 (PC-1) approved by the RDA, Nespak recommended reducing the breadth to minimise the cost of the PKR 25 billion project. The decision to reduce width was agreed upon at the RDA governing body’s 57th meeting, and the ultimate approval of the PC-1 will be provided at the forthcoming Central Working Development Party (CDWP) meeting.

The Punjab Planning and Development (P&D) Board has already approved the project. Similarly, the project has been sent to the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) board for approval as well after which tenders will be published. It was said at the meeting that the experts had expressed worries about reducing the width of the storm drain since it has the potential to limit the project’s floods management capabilities. The canal depth, however, will be expanded from 8 to 11 feet to withstand monsoon floods.
