Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has initiated its operation against illegal housing societies in the city, which would continue into the last week of August – a news source reported. RDA Chairman Arif Abbasi announced that the body would implement the laws without discrimination and uphold a zero tolerance policy against illegal schemes.

All forms of illegal encroachments on land in the jurisdiction of the RDA, such as offices and gates, will be torn down by the authority, while cases are going to be registered against the owners of illegal housing schemes. Advertisement boards for such societies will also be taken down.
The operation is to be overseen by the RDA magistrate, and the authority has contacted other concerned department including the State Bank of Pakistan, Overseas Pakistanis Foundation, DG PEMRA, police, and advertising companies. Letters have been sent to the concerned departments to emphasise strict action against such schemes.

The chairman informed the media that an updated list of all legal and illegal housing schemes has been uploaded on the RDA website to facilitate citizens and save them from fraud. Approved layouts of the legal housing societies are also going to be uploaded on the website soon.
