Rawalpindi: Witnessing water supply shortage in Khanpur Dam due to declining underground water tables, the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has banned the issuance of new water connections in its jurisdiction, a news source reported. To cope with this situation, the RCB has also imposed a water emergency.

The board has also terminated the issuance of water connections for the projects against which applications for approval of building plans are under consideration. As mentioned in official orders, the decision pertaining to the ban’s imposition is temporary. The ban will be revoked once the water situation in the city improves.

Reportedly, water supply to the existing consumers in the cantonment has also been restricted, due to which, the residents will now have to purchase water from supply tankers.
