According to sources, the construction of the central command and control centre of the project has entered its final stage. This centre is being set up in the Rawalpindi City Police Officer’s complex.
The setting up of this project is under the Punjab Safe Cities Authority. The authority is building the project in Rawalpindi along the same lines as the Safe City project in Lahore.
The Rawalpindi City Police Officer (RPCO) Abbas Ahsan has stated that once the Safe City project comes online, it will offer a major technological boost to the city’s police force. He added that he is hopeful the project will be helpful in tackling street crime, monitoring suspects and banned elements, and even preventing terror activities.
Ahsan stated that with this project, the police force and other law enforcing agencies will be better equipped for planning a response to emergency and unusual situations. It will also allow for more efficient use of resources, he added.
