Rawalpindi: Prime Minister Imran Khan will perform the groundbreaking of Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) on August 14, according to Aviation Minister Chaudhary Ghulam Sarwar. The minister was reportedly approached by a newspaper to get the latest information on development planned for the mega road project.
Answering a question, Sarwar said that the official concerned s have been directed to make all the necessary arrangements to hold the groundbreaking of Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) on August 14. In this regard, stern directives have been given to ensure completion of the tendering process among local and international firms latest by July 31.

The minister further said that all obstacles in holding the RRR’s groundbreaking on this Independence Day will be removed by July 31. He further revealed that almost half of the landowners have been compensated for the land acquired for the project, while issuance of payments to the remaining 50% will begin this month.
The 64-kilometre-long, 360-foot wide circular road will be built under private public partnership. It will have 6 lanes and 10 interchanges. Other features of the circular road include:
- 200-acre theme park
- 80-acre community and activity zone
- 700-acre medical city featuring a 500-bed hospital
- 300-acre education zone
- 100-acre transport terminal
- 6,000-acre satellite town
- Wholesale markets for fruit, vegetables, flowers
- Terminal for goods transporters
The development work on the project is expected to begin in August and its completion and delivery timeframe is slated for December 2023.
