According to a senior official (whose name was not disclosed), the Ring Road project was referred to Central Development Working Party (CDWP) for final approval to get permission from the federal government. He went on to say that that the plan of establishing Special Economic Zones (SEZs) along the RRR was cancelled to save land acquisition costs. However, it was reported that the SEZs were cancelled because the project was not being developed on public-private partnership and was undertaken as Annual Development Programme (ADP) scheme.
Giving out more details about PKR 10 billion RRR, it will be a bypass to bring heavy traffic from G.T. Road to motorway rather than a Ring Road. RDA Director General (DG) Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah informed the attendees that both the projects were cleared by the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP). He said connecting G.T Road from Banth to Thallian Interchange Motorway was economical, feasible, and viable. Further, he disclosed that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan was expected to break ground on December 25.
