Rawalpindi: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi Mohammad Ali Randhawa recently established a cell with an aim to identify benami properties in the district, according to a news source. Randhawa took this decision following directives from Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.

As per government officials, this cell has been set up to investigate the land revenue records of people and their relatives suspected of owning benami properties. Headed by the additional deputy commissioner revenue, the facility comprises assistant commissioners and superintendents of police as it members.
DC Randhawa revealed that the cell would commence with its operations from next week onwards, once it receives formal directives from the Punjab government.

Moreover, he said that the administration would collaborate with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in its bid to curb the issue of benami properties; with the cooperation of tehsildars and patwaris deemed necessary on this front. Similarly, the services of a special branch of the police will be contracted to interrogate suspects living in various areas, he added.
