Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) has directed the departments concerned to ensure uninterrupted supply of food essentials during the going lockdown aimed at controlling the spread of the novel coronavirus in the city, a news source reported.

To this effect, the DC issued a notification wherein he ordered Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary Ghulam Abbas Mehar to ensure an uninterrupted food supply chain in vegetable markets across the district.
Further, he ordered the continuation of everyday products like flour, rice, sugar, milk, fruits, vegetables, meat, chicken, fish, and pluses during the lockdown initiated for containing the novel coronavirus outbreak in Rawalpindi.

In response, Mehar assured that the district would receive an uninterrupted supply of food items during the lockdown aimed at preventing coronavirus transmission. He also requested the City Police Officer (CPO) and City Traffic Officer (CTO) to extend their support to the goods transporters. He added that since 80% of food essentials reach Rawalpindi from other cities, the transporters would use motorway and GT Road.
