Rawalpindi: The Punjab Planning and Development Department (PDD) on Wednesday directed Rawalpindi Commissioner Saqib Zafar to initiate the process of hiring consultant for the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) and Leh Expressway projects, a news source reported. The consultant will be tasked with the preparation of feasibility studies for these projects.

Commissioner Zafar said that a delegation comprising officials of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which is the financer for the said undertaking, would inspect the RRR project site on August 4. He added that the consultant would be finalised ahead of the delegation’s visit.
The delegation would visit and inspect the proposed sites from Chani Sher Alam to Thalian and give their suggestions. Moreover, the AIIB officials would be briefed on several proposed facilities (including a bus terminal, grain market, and a business centre) along the RRR route. He also said that the development of an education city along the RRR route would help manage the ill-planned developments in the city.

With regard to the Leh Expressway project’s development, the commissioner said that it would be developed on the private-public partnership model. The consultant will prepare the PC-I for the project, he added. He expressed the hope that the construction of Leh Expressway would facilitate the commuters in Rawalpindi.
