Islamabad: Pakistan and China have launched four mega-development projects pertaining to energy, technology, and education under the auspices of the multi-billion economic corridor (CPEC) project, a news source reported.

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and Chinese Vice President (VP) Wang Qishan, who is on a three-day visit to Pakistan, inaugurated the projects at a ceremony held in Islamabad.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Khusro Bakhtiar, Adviser to the PM on Finance Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, and members of the Chinese delegation were all present at the occasion.
Under the energy project, the two countries would develop a transmission line of 660kv between Matiari and Lahore. The power project would utilise coal from Thar, Port Qasim, and Hub to supply 2,000MW of electricity.

The two leaders also unveiled the plaque for Rashakai Special Economic Zone (RSEZ) which will be set up in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). This initiative aims to promote industrialisation and technology.
Under the third project, China will establish the Confucious Institute at the University of Punjab. The educational programme will provide Chinese education, as well as facilitate cultural promotion and cultural exchange between the two countries.

The ceremony also marked the launching of Huawei Technical Support Center, which will be established in Pakistan as part of Chinese tech giant’s commitment to make massive investment in the country.
