Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan has ordered for the speedy construction of the approach roads leading to the Rashakai Economic Zone (SEZ), according to news sources.
Moreover, he also termed the Rashakai SEZ as a ‘flagship project’ of the provincial government for the sake of KP’s development, economic growth and prosperity. Khan made these remarks while chairing a meeting of the KP Special Economic Zones Authority (KP-SEZA) Board of Directors. During the meeting, the CM ordered the concerned authorities to ensure completion of all prerequisites and arrangements needed for the ground-breaking of the mega project — scheduled by the end of this month (June).

The meeting was informed that the revised development agreement of the said SEZ has been tabled before the Federal Board of Investment – the signing of which is expected within the next two weeks.
Additionally, the meeting was also informed that the administrative control of KP-SEZA has been handed over to the KP Board of Investment and Trade, as per the board’s decision. The meeting also approved the summary of the zoning regulations of Rashakai SEZ and reconstitution of KP-SEZA for submission before the Federal Board of Investment for final approval.

Regarding the project, Khan stated that the Rashakai SEZ was a project of national importance and as such, would prove to be a ‘milestone in the economic development of not only the province but the whole country as well’. He was hopeful that thousands of new employment opportunities will be created by the establishment of the SEZ in question.
Meanwhile, the CM also issued direction for expedited developmental work for the establishment of Buner, Hattar, Dera Ismail Khan and other proposed economic zones within the communicated time frame.
