Lahore: After the recent rainfall in Lahore, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has improved and the pollution level was also brought down with a recorded particulate matter (PM) rating of 160, which brings the city in the ‘unhealthy’ category from a more hazardous level, according to media reports published on Thursday (January 6).

As per the details, the rainfall that continued throughout the night did not only make the weather chilly but also improved the air quality. According to a tweet shared by Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), the air quality index at Lahore’s Sundar Industrial Estate was 169, at National Hockey Stadium was 157, at Town Hall was 104, and at Township Sector C2 was 61.

Moreover, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more rainfall in the city and expects the AQI to go down further. Reportedly, the AQI is calculated based on five categories of pollution: particulate matter, sulphur dioxide, ground-level ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and carbon monoxide.
