Rawalpindi: Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed on Sunday announced that if a decision for resuming the train service was not made by Tuesday (May 19), a total amount of PKR 240 million would be refunded to all the passengers with previously booked, unclaimed rides, according to news sources.

Sheikh Rasheed said that the Pakistan Railways (PR) has prepared an initial test plan to run 30 trains, but the decision will be finalised after a meeting with Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan. If the premier refused, the ticket-refund will be made in 15 days.

The minister revealed that initially a single train ‘Jaffer Express’ would be run in Balochistan. He also said that the trains have been sanitised and special steps will be deployed to ensure strict adherence to the COVID-19 safety measures.
Moreover, Rasheed also underlined that over 50% of the Railway’s revenue is generated at the Eid holidays and that the department is still planning to pay salaries and pensions before Eid, despite the widening deficit.
