Islamabad: Pakistan Railways (PR) will start running four more trains, including Sindh Express, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Express, Faisalabad Express, and Rehman Baba Express, a news source reported. Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the rail services, keeping the government’s word of launching 10 new trains as part of the 100 Days Agenda.
Sindh Express – which will run from Karachi to Sukkur – will cover areas such as Karachi Cantt, Landhi, Hyderabad, Tandu Adam, Shadapur, Nawab Shah, Khaipur and Sukkur. Its ticket for the economy class will cost PKR 470.
Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Express – which will run from Karachi all the way to Mirpur Khas – will cover Karachi City, Landhi, Dhabeji, Hyderabad and Mirpur Khas at a fare of PKR 190.
Faisalabad Express has been extended to Multan and will also cover Khanewal and Shorkot. Its economy class fare till Multan will be PKR 260, whereas Rehman Baba Express will cover areas between Peshawar and Karachi.
Pakistan is already in talks with China to upgrade Mainline-I, a rail track operated by PR that runs between Peshawar and Karachi, which is a strategic scheme under the multi-billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard has been signed between PR and the National Railway Administration of China (NRAC).
The two sides have also agreed to hold a detailed interaction of officials concerned to come up with innovative strategies for the railways sectors of the two countries. A two-day session would be held in this regard and the final recommendations will be released on December 25.
