Islamabad: Pakistan Railways is all set to introduce a mobile application and tracking system for its passengers, a news source reported. The latest initiative would allow the passengers to book tickets online as well as receive updates about the timing and location.
The application is being developed by Syed Muddassar Hussain, a Sukkur-based IT expert. Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed will soon launch the mobile app at a ceremony.
Trackers will be installed in all trains, and the customers would receive updates regarding location, upcoming stations and even the speed of their train.
Hussain claimed the application would be much more efficient and advanced as compared to the previous system of inquiry through the 117 hotline.
The project is being completed at an estimated cost of PKR 7 million. The authorities concerned have also imported 350 trackers worth PKR 70 million from China. The trackers will be installed in 325 engines.
