The ML-1 project is expected to be executed in three phases along with the revamping of the existing track and placing a double line track along the existing track. Following the project’s completion, the trains are expected to travel at a speed of 120-160 kilometres per hour. The ML-1 railway line will ensure time efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.

The revised PC-1 also shows that the development costs have been revised downwards from USD 9.248 billion to USD 9.172 billion. However, there is an anticipation that the costs might increase beyond USD 10 billion. Moreover, after the completion of the project, the government has to consider the operation and management (O&M) of the modern railways as the current railways’ workforce is not equipped to deal with the modernised railways.
