Kasur: The railways administration has retrieved commercial land worth PKR 22 crore from the possession of land mafia and encroachers, a news source reported. Criminal cases have been lodged against 30 individuals and arrests are being carried out in this regard.
Sources close to the development said that the administration, as part of its ongoing anti-encroachment drive, carried out a crackdown against illegal occupants and retrieve commercial land measuring 225 marlas.
The railways department is also mulling leasing out some of the encroached land at market rates. This will only be done for the land that the department does not need. The department said it might compensate people affected by the drive but only if the funds are available.
Earlier in December, Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed announced Pakistan Railways had generated PKR 2 billion during the first 100 days of the new government.
