Lahore: Pakistan Railways (PR) on Wednesday (October 20) announced the up-gradation and rehabilitation of the Narowal-Kartarpur railways line, news sources reported. The decision was taken to facilitate Sikh pilgrims visiting Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur.

The PKR 1 billion Narowal- Kartarpur project concept will be presented in the upcoming meeting that will be presided over by the minister of railways. As per the details, the route has been lying unused since 2003 due to faulty lines. However, after the inauguration of the Kartarpur corridor, the project is set to be revived to facilitate the influx of Sikh devotees.

Under the renewed project details, a new line will be laid along with the construction of the station, with a station master room, basic sanitation and drinking water facilities and security gates. In addition to this, the project also features adequate resting facilities and waiting areas. As per the Pakistan Railways Chief Executive Officer Nisar Ahmed Memon, in addition to providing better facilities, the importance of the route also means higher revenue for Pakistan Railways with better service delivery.
