Multan: Pakistan Railways Multan Division will complete laying down a 71-kilometres (km) long rail track by June 2020 to assist with speedier train transportation, a news source reported. The authority has already completed the construction of a 57-km long stretch of the project.

A Railways official revealed that the rail track project spans from Sher Shah to Kot Addu. He added that they expect to complete the construction of the remaining 14 kilometres of the track soon.
Once completed, the rail track will allow trains to move at faster speeds. The official stated that following completion, the track will assist the train to reach speeds of up to 100 km/hour. He added that currently, trains were running at a speed of only 80 km/hour.

Divisional Engineer-II Mujeeb ur Rahman revealed that the Railways authority was also planning to begin work on a rail segment of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative. He added that they had already issued the tenders, and finalised the feasibility report.
