Islamabad: Pakistan Railways (PR) has prepared a PC-1 amounting to PKR 380 billion for the upgradation of the Mainline-1 (ML-1) Karachi to Peshawar railway track, a news source reported.

The railways department will now approach the Planning Commission in order to secure its approval for the project. Railway officials have also decided to request the release of funds worth PKR 50 billion for the department in the upcoming budget.
The ML-1’s initial design will reportedly cost PKR 10.64 billion. The upgradation work on ML-1, which is one of the seven railway projects being developed under the CPEC umbrella, is expected to commence in December this year.
Meanwhile, the ministry has allocated a sum of PKR 130 million for developing the feasibility report of a new rail link from Gwadar to Mastung and Jacobabad.

Moreover, an amount of PKR 4.54 billion has allocated for purchasing land for the 18-KM Gwadar railway track.
