Islamabad: Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed on Wednesday said that the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project would meet the deadline issued by the Supreme Court (SC) and be operationalised within six months, a news source reported. To this effect, he stated that the Sindh and the federal governments were collaborating on the execution of the project.
Rasheed said that the country’s financial crunch and illegal structures on Railway’s lands were the major hurdles in the completion of the project. During the same Question Hour in NA, Parliamentary Secretary for Railways Farrukh Habib stated that the authorities had upgraded about 550 vulnerable level crossings throughout the railways network with the assistance of provincial governments to avoid accidents.
Habib stated that they had replaced the kerosene oil-based signals with LED lights on the mainline to improve the visibility of signals. Additionally, the authorities had installed cameras in the locomotives, while the staff personnel is monitored through online inspection. Also, the authorities will install two thousand fire extinguishers in trains by the end of March, he added. Furthermore, Habib hoped to bring the KCR project to its logical end in a timely fashion.
