Islamabad: Pakistan Railways on Thursday (November 12) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company – China North Industries Group Corporation (Norinco) for executing an enhanced customer facilitation project through an Information Technology (IT) based-approach, according to news sources.

As per the details shared, the Chinese firm will implement the project in 10 years using Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) mode. Chairman of the Ministry of Railways Habibur Rehman Gilani, while speaking at the event, disclosed that the Chinese company will implement the project with no financial contribution by the Railways. He went on to say that the Pakistan Railways will get a fair share in the ticket price and freight and value-added services.

Moreover, the project falls under Railway Automated Booking and Travel Assistance (Rabta) project – it is introduced by the Ministry of Railways to improve the efficiency of Pakistan Railways. Under this initiative, the customers can plan and book a journey through a single interface. It will allow the customers to choose seats, order car rental, book a hotel check train status, order meals and refreshments, and buy tickets.
