Peshawar: On Thursday, the leadership of the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) requested the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to speed up the process of mainstreaming merged tribal districts so that work on various development projects and schemes can begin as soon as possible, according to news reports. This request was made while speaking to a delegation of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), according to a statement which was issued later.

The delegation comprised several members of the HRCP, of which Parveen Soomro, Ghazi Salahuddin, and Hina Jilani were some of the prominent names present. Sikander Hayat Sherpao, a leader of the QWP, discussed several of his concerns with the delegation during the meeting, specifically those pertaining to merging tribal districts.

Sherpao reportedly said that even though some tribal areas had been merged with provinces, development work had not been initiated as yet.
