Lahore: The Punjab government has announced a 2% quota for council members of the Lahore Press Club under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) project, a news source reported.

Provincial Minister for Housing and Urban Development Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed expressed his views on the matter. He was addressing a press briefing at the Lahore Press Club on Saturday.

Press Club President Arshad Ansari, Senior Vice President Zulfiqar Ali Mehto, Vice President Nasir Attique, Secretary Zahid Abid, along with several members of the journalist community, were all present at the occasion.

Minister Rasheed informed that construction work for at least 100,000 houses – measuring 3 and 5-marla – would commence in April. These low-cost residential units will be constructed on Barki Road, Raiwind Road, Multan Road, Defence Road, and Kahna Road in Lahore.

At least 100 journalists nominated by the Press Club will be issued loans (Qarz-e-Hasna) of up to PKR 500,000 for the NPHP project. The provincial government has also reserved a special quota for the families of Pakistan Army and Punjab Police martyrs.
