Quetta: Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Jam Kamal Khan Alyani on Wednesday (March 4) inaugurated the recently completed runway and international lounge facilities at the Quetta International Airport, according to a news report. As per the publication, the CM also laid the foundation stone for another mega runway facility at the venue.
Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan, PIA officials and various ministers of the Balochistan assembly attended the ceremony. Speaking at the occasion, CM Alyani said that the new runway at the Quetta airport would have the capacity to host bigger planes like the Boing 777, and offer better travel facilities to tourists and pilgrims.
He also appreciated the efforts of the Pakistan International Airlines and the Civil Aviation Authority in teaching flying skills to other countries around the world and helping them set up their own aviation industries.
The CM also took the opportunity to state that the Quetta International Airport and the under-construction Gwadar International Airport were increasing in importance due to the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor initiative. He added that the aviation sector’s development was among the government’s top priority, as it would allow for greater regional connectivity and improvements in the operations of the Quetta airport (which reportedly currently receives 500,000 passengers every year).
