Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired a meeting on Sunday to review the legal procedures and final steps related to the closure of the Public Works Department (PWD), as reported by a news source on August 26.

During the meeting, PM Sharif emphasised that financial packages for employees affected by the closure would not extend to those guilty of serious corruption. He also directed that a plan for transferring ongoing PWD projects to provinces and relevant departments be presented promptly. Final recommendations for the PWD’s closure are to be submitted to the cabinet.
The premier also ordered that the proposal for age relaxation, aimed at re-employing diligent and honest former PWD employees with short service periods, be implemented. The meeting was attended by several key ministers and senior officials.
E-Office System in Government Offices
In a separate directive, PM Sharif tasked the Ministry for Information Technology and other relevant departments with implementing the e-office system across all government offices. He emphasised the need of transition to paperless operations within a month, warning that any delays would not be tolerated.
PM Sharif highlighted that the e-office initiative is a priority for enhancing transparency and efficiency in government operations. He requested a progress report on the e-office implementation within two weeks.
