Lahore: The Government of Punjab has rolled back Purple Line project, a news source quoted unnamed sources from the Planning Department.
The project was proposed back in November 2017 during the tenure of the exiting government and its cost was estimated at PKR 200 billion. According to the concept paper approved back during 2017, the Purple Line Train was to run between Allama Iqbal International Airport and Bhatti Chowk while passing through Shah Alam Chowk, Brandreth Road, Boharwala Chowk and Garhi Shahu.
The 16.7-kilometre-long track was inclusive of the elevated track measuring 11.4 kilometres, while the remaining part was to be laid underground. According to reports published back then, the project was to be funded by Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, China, for which loan worth PKR 2 billion were to be released under the first instalment.
The Central Development Working Party had also approved the project and sent the proposal to China for securing loans.
