Bahawalpur: The Punjab Wildlife Department on Thursday (September 09) announced intentions to rehabilitate Safari and adjacent Lala Sohanra Park in Cholistan, news sources reported. These parks are being rehabilitated as part of the Prime Minister’s Clean and Green Initiative.

It would cost PKR 10 billion to cover an area of 330 acres. The rehabilitation proposal also includes the creation of a 500-acre sanctuary for the breeding of endangered black bucks in Cholistan. Reportedly, the campaign to rescue black bucks was launched in 1962, when the endangered species went extinct.

Likewise, a 4670-square-kilometre sanctuary would be constructed for the breeding of Indian bustards. Rai Zahid Ali, Deputy Director Wildlife of the Bahawalpur Division, stated that the agency intends to hire the required manpower and security to maintain strict adherence to SOPs for wildlife preservation.
