Lahore: The Punjab government will establish the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in the divisions of Sialkot and Sahiwal, news sources reported on August 5. The water management authority will be established under the Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Programme (PICIIP).

According to reports, the decision was made during a meeting between Punjab Local Government and Community Development (LGCD) Secretary Imran Sikander Baloch and representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). On the occasion, the secretary stated that work on development projects in both cities will be expedited following the monsoon. He also stated that the government would start new projects in Sialkot and Sahiwal from November this year.

Furthermore, he stated that the government has already completed several initiatives, including developing three public parks in Sialkot as part of the Punjab Intermediate Project (PIP) and providing modern solid waste management technology. He also mentioned that the government is interested in expanding the scope of the PICIIP initiative to seven more cities to enhance infrastructure and modernise it.
