Lahore: The Punjab Tourism Department on Thursday announced its decision to register over 14,000 travel agencies in Punjab during Financial Year (FY) 2020-21, a news source reported. Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister (CM) on Tourism Asif Mehmood chaired a meeting to this effect.

The attendees decided that the department would also train and register 114 tourist guides across the province. During the meeting, the officials of the Tourism and Archaeology departments apprised the advisor about the various upcoming development schemes.
Mehmood revealed that in Punjab, and specifically in Lahore, there were several heritage sites but the locals were not aware of their significance. He added that the renovation of heritage sites such as Jahangir’s Tomb and Noor Jehan Tomb, was underway.

On the matter of the Tourism Authority, the adviser stated that work on the proposed legislation was in its final stages. He opined that the establishment of this authority would improve the capability of the Tourism Department significantly.
He directed the officials concerned to ensure the availability of all necessary facilities at the tourist sites in the province.
