Lahore: The Punjab government announced its decision to cooperate with the National Disaster Risk Mitigation Fund (NDRMF) to deal with the effects of climate change and natural disasters, according to a news report. As per the publication, the provincial government further decided to focus on risk assessment to reduce the loss and destruction caused by earthquakes, floods, and droughts.

These decisions were made during an NDRMF meeting that was chaired by Chief Secretary Azam Suleman Khan and was held at the Civil Secretariat. NDRMF CEO Lt. Gen. (rtd) Nadeem Ahmed, Chief of Staff Mohy-ud-din Ahmad Wani, Deputy General Manager Fawad Hayat, Planning and Development Chairman Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh, Secretary Environment Saima Saeed, and Senior Member Board of Revenue Babar Hayat Tarar also attended the meeting, along with many others.

The Chief Secretary asked the NDRMF officials to help the Punjab government with a comprehensive policy for revitalising River Ravi, and for controlling the pollution in River Sawan. The NDRMF will provide technical support to the government in this regard, and will work closely with the relevant provincial committees.
