Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar on Wednesday provided his approval to the establishment of 10 more shelter homes in rented buildings in the metropolis and issued directions for the officers concerned to identify suitable locations at the earliest, according to news sources.

He issued these orders while chairing a meeting held regarding the provision of better facilities in shelter homes established in Lahore. A committee led by the ACS (U&I) – briefed the meeting attendees about its recommendations about bringing ‘improved facilities’ at the shelter homes in Lahore.

Moreover, several important decisions were made during the meeting including that the said model will be replicated in other cities and the standard of services will also be enhanced. The CM approved the establishment of the Punjab Shelter Homes Authority to supervise these arrangements – while the Communication & Works (C&W) Departments will oversee the matters of the shelter homes’ buildings. He also added that the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will be tasked to formulated an online system to digitally review the shelter homes.
