Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced ambitious plans to address the province’s housing and economic needs by raising the loan limit for the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar Scheme to PKR 2 million and constructing 500,000 housing units within the next five years.
Speaking at the launch ceremony of the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Livestock Card in Pakpattan, the Chief Minister outlined her vision for the future of Punjab’s housing sector. The initiative aims to provide affordable housing to low-income families across the province, with a focus on offering financial support through interest-free loans.
In her address, Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of the Apna Ghar scheme in providing a sustainable solution to the housing crisis. The loan increase from PKR 1.5 million to PKR 2 million is intended to support families in purchasing or constructing homes that meet their needs and aspirations. The initiative is set to benefit a significant portion of Punjab’s population, particularly those in rural areas.
Alongside the housing initiative, the Chief Minister highlighted plans for the development of metro bus projects in Gujranwala and Faisalabad, which are set to be launched next year. These projects aim to enhance urban connectivity and provide efficient public transport options for the province’s residents.
In her speech, Maryam Nawaz also outlined various steps to improve the agricultural and livestock sectors. She announced that modern agricultural machinery would be made available on rent in every tehsil, eliminating middlemen and ensuring farmers have access to essential tools at affordable rates. Additionally, she spoke of measures to increase local production of livestock vaccines and introduced animal tagging with QR codes across Punjab to improve traceability and quality control.
The Chief Minister further revealed that farmers who possess fewer than 10 animals will receive a subsidy of Rs 270,000 over four months through the Livestock Card, provided the animals meet health and weight criteria. This initiative aims to boost livestock production, improve meat and milk quality, and promote exports, ensuring that both domestic needs and international demand are met.
These initiatives are expected to not only improve the lives of Punjab’s farmers and youth but also contribute to the province’s overall economic growth and development. The Chief Minister concluded by reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to creating sustainable livelihoods and promoting a prosperous future for all residents of Punjab.
