Bahawalpur: The Punjab Government intends to impose taxes on waste collection and sanitation in Bahawalpur and six other cities where the waste management companies are functional, a news source reported. The departments concerned have been asked to submit their recommendations by December 31.
Sources close to the development said that the provincial government wants to implement a uniform taxation system on the residents of Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, and Bahawalpur.
Earlier, Senior Minister Aleem Khan had announced an amount of PKR 100 as garbage tax. He said the government made the decision on the basis of a five-year old study.
He said that the solid waste management companies will be asked to collect waste and charge respective households to generate funds. This will help reduce the burden on the government.
