Rawalpindi: The Government of Punjab (GOP) has decided to ban the construction of housing schemes on agricultural land, according to a news source. In this regard, a three-member committee has been formed to prepare a draft based on related laws. The draft will be presented to the Punjab Assembly in the form of a bill for formal approval.
During a meeting held on Thursday, it was decided that GOP will not allow any developer to set up a housing society on land marked as agricultural, or let anyone use it for purposes other than farming. In addition to that, the provincial government is also looking to introduce apartment projects to meet accommodation needs throughout the province.
The meeting also decided that Union Councils secretaries and Corporation and Municipal Committee CEOs will be made to monitor agricultural and public lands to ensure that no real estate developer uses the land for setting up their real estate projects.
