The newly approved districts include Murree, which was previously part of Rawalpindi District; Kot Addu, which was previously part of Muzaffar Garh; Wazirabad, which was previously part of Gujranwala District; and Talagang, which was previously part of Rawalpindi District.
The summary was moved by the Board of Revenue (BoR), which proposed the creation of five new districts, including Taunsa Sharif, but the notification for Taunsa has been withheld, citing administrative and border problems with district Dera Ghazi (DG) Khan. According to reports, notice for the designation of Taunsa Sharif as a new district would be issued after the number of tehsils in the newly formed district is readjusted.

The new notice is scheduled to be released next week, with Fort Munroo being removed from Tausna Sharif and instead attached to Dera Ghazi Khan. The decision was taken in response to Fort Munro residents’ concerns over the long journey from Taunsa, which is 100 kilometres, as opposed to the shorter trip from DG Khan, which is 30 kilometres. It is important to note that the Punjab government divided districts into smaller administrative units to manage revenue. Once the notification of Taunsa Sharif as a new district is issued, the number of districts in Punjab will rise to 41.
