Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar recently approved the setting up of four additional COVID-19 diagnostic laboratories in the province, a news source reported.

According to the details available, the laboratories will be set up in Sargodha and Sialkot in the first phase of the initiative, while the second phase will involve the development of diagnostic laboratories in Gujrat and Rahim Yar Khan. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Punjab Cabinet committee for the eradication of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

During the meeting, its attendees were informed about the protocols of the ‘smart lockdown’ initiative, and how various industrial units would be opened phase-wise during the month of Ramzan. The meeting was further informed that the laboratories in the Institute of Public Health and TB Control Programme, Nishtar Hospital Multan, Allied Hospital Faisalabad, and Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) Wazirabad had been upgraded. In addition, the CM was informed that the new laboratories in Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and Rawalpindi would be made operational in the next couple of days.
