Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to work on restoration and protection projects for 10 heritage sites in the upcoming financial year, according to official sources. These sites include the Lahore Fort Museum, Shalamar Bagh, Rohtas Fort, and Taxila Museum; which the government aims to restore to their ‘historical glory’ to attract tourists and generate revenue.

Sources also reveal that the government aims to add a range of facilities and amenities to these sites. Horticulture and Tourism Adviser to Chief Minister Asif Mehmood reviewed the ongoing restoration work at Shalamar Bagh; where the authorities concerned are currently redecorating the third tier of the gardens with mosaic tiles, in addition to repairing some parts of the first tier’s wall.

During the proceedings, Mehmood informed that the tourism department also planned to set up information counters at these heritage sites, along with orchestrating storytelling events, guards-routines in Mughal-era costumes, and various other programmes for tourism promotion purposes.
