The CM directed all the relevant departments including the Environment Protection Department (EPD), the Transport Department, and the provincial administration, to be on the roads and highways and award fines to vehicles emitting smoke higher than the permissible limits. He iterated that since there is a general restriction on the burning of agricultural stubble, penalties would be enforced on anybody who violates the ban. He asked the relevant authorities to check all vehicles entering Lahore for smoke emissions.

It is worth noting that in terms of air quality, Lahore has been ranked one of the worst cities for living with the Air Quality Index (AQI) falling below worrisome limits. The government has previously banned obsolete automobiles and smoke-emitting industries, yet the situation has not improved. As a result, every winter, millions of people in the city suffer from numerous respiratory, skin, and eye illnesses.
