Lahore: The Punjab Police plans to discourage the operations of housing societies which lack proper surveillance systems on their premises, a news source reported. For this purpose, the security agency will submit a written application to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA); requesting it to seize the issuance of no-objection certificates (NOCs) to the said residential schemes.

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Captain (retired) Arif Nawaz Khan expressed his views on the matter during a meeting, which was held at the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) office in Lahore on Tuesday.
The attendees reviewed the one-year progress report of the Safe City project. They also discussed various initiatives regarding traffic management and crime control that required close coordination between the PSCA and the law-enforcement agencies.

He said that audio-visual footage of the city recorded through the network of Safe City cameras should be utilised as evidences during investigations into different cases. He urged the officials concerned to avoid delays in the provision of video recordings to the investigation officers; adding that the PSCA personnel should strive to adopt best practices on this front.
