Lahore: The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday (December 03) held a meeting to review the preventive measures being taken to curb the deteriorating air quality and anti-smog operation, according to news sources.

Punjab Relief Commissioner Naveed Haider Shirazi chaired the meeting and said that PDMA will lead line departments to curb smog in Lahore as ordered by the Lahore High Court. He also instructed for long and short-term plans, the number of vehicles and lists of teams to be submitted to the PDMA. Mr Shirazi said that the help of citizens needed to be sought for smog elimination, while a mobile application for citizens is being developed. The said mobile app will be used to file complaints about factories and public vehicles that are contributing to environmental pollution.

It was highlighted that environment and other line departments need to work diligently and anti-smog operations need to be executed at an accelerated pace. He proposed that the transport department share the fitness certificates of the vehicles with the traffic police. Moreover, the relief commissioner asked for the construction work on major road arteries of Lahore to be completed soon so there are no traffic jams. He said there will be a zero-tolerance policy against the burning of garbage, crop residue, and kilns working without shifting to zigzagging technology.
