Lahore: Punjab Senior Provincial Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal on Sunday (October 2) announced a province-wide operation against all illegal housing schemes in the province, news sources reported.

The minister stated that the government would take strict action against anybody who constructs illegal housing schemes on agricultural land without the clearance of the regulatory authorities. The government will undertake a comprehensive probe, including all law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies. During a press conference in Lahore, he made remarks about the pending legislative amendments. He stated that the regulatory agencies would be given the authority to take impartial and stern action against such schemes that rob individuals of their hard-earned money. He also updated on the numerous actions against unlawful housing schemes within LDA jurisdiction, including societies erected on irrigation department land.

It is worth noting that the government has recommended several legislative adjustments to existing legislation to enable affordable housing initiatives. This includes the launch of the Lahore Master Plan 2050, which proposes adjustments in urban design to accommodate future population growth.
