Lahore: The Punjab government is reintroducing the Numberdar system after a hiatus of 20 years in an attempt to strengthen local governance and empower communities, according to news published on July 20.

This ambitious new plan aims to create 12,000 new job opportunities by appointing competent individuals as Numberdars, enabling them to contribute significantly to the progress of the national economy. To expedite the recruitment of these open Numberdar positions, a fast-track summary has been initiated already. This summary will secure a swift selection of qualified people.
In another related development, the government has earmarked 100 kanal of land to provide support to the existing 38,000 Numberdars spread across the state. The move comes as part of the administration’s recognition of the crucial role played by Numberdars in local governance.

The revived Numberdar system will entrust these officials with 22 essential responsibilities.
