Lahore: The Government of Punjab is considering providing a subsidy on electricity bills and ‘home delivery services’ as part of its Ramzan Relief Package 2020 to facilitate the public amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a news source reported.

In this regard, Provincial Minister of Industry and Trade Mian Aslam Iqbal chaired a meeting at the Civil Secretariat. The meeting discussed several proposals for the Ramzan Relief Package 2020. These proposals included the subsidy on electricity bills and home delivery services – for essential items at discounted rates.
The members of the meeting agreed upon providing relief to the public pertaining to the electricity and gas bills during Ramzan. The meeting decided to forward all discussed proposals to the provincial cabinet for official approval.

Furthermore, Iqbal highlighted that the government would also provide a targeted subsidy of PKR 8 billion to PKR 12 billion to the public as establishing Ramzan bazaar was not an option, due to the lockdown. As per reports, he added that the targeted subsidy facility would provide relief to the underprivileged during the holy month. The provincial cabinet will provide the official decision on this matter, he said.
