Lahore: The Punjab Board of Revenue (BOR) has notified the deputy commissioners of all districts to identify ‘red zones’ along the province’s motorways, within the specific radiuses of railways stations, and on the lands maintained under the jurisdiction of municipal committees and metropolitan corporations; in order to ensure that these tracts are not used for the development of any public project, according to report published in a local newspaper on July 16.

The land demarcation process is being carried out according to the Local Government Act, 2019. The deputy commissioners of all the districts in the province will ensure identification of the red zones in their respective districts.
As per the notification, 20 kilometres of land around the metropolitan corporations’ jurisdiction will be marked ‘not allocated for any public scheme’. The area specified for municipal committees’ domains is 10 kilometres, while 6-kilometres of land around the town committees’ jurisdiction will be considered as red zone.

Furthermore, in the case of motorways, 2-kilometres of land on each side will fall into the red zone. Similarly, 2-kilometres of land around railways stations in the province cannot be acquired for development of any public scheme.
