Lahore: Upon the directives of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, the Punjab government on Monday (November 01) decided to monitor 7,000 ongoing development projects in the province, news sources reported. In this regard, PKR 790 million will be spent on hiring private firms for Third Party Verification (TPV) and monitoring.

The responsibility for overseeing this project has been assigned to the Director-General (DG) Monitoring and Evaluation, and the fund has been formally approved by the Standing Cabinet Committee on Finance. The funds for the monitoring project will be soon included in the annual development budget. According to the information released, the project’s goal is to improve public expenditure while maintaining transparency in government spending. It is also for the first time in the history of Punjab that such a large amount of money is being spent on monitoring projects.

As the government has issued billions of rupees in funds for several road infrastructure and development projects, there have been persistent calls from various government officials to prevent the expropriation of public funds.
