It was agreed during a meeting chaired by Senior Minister Punjab Mian Aslam Iqbal at 90-Shara-e-Quad-e-Azam. He stated that the government will use PLDC’s land and resources to build low-cost homes in the province. He emphasised that the PLDC and PHATA serve the same purpose and that merging the two comparable departments would be more efficient and manageable. He further stated that no jobs will be lost due to the merger and that no citizens’ investments in PLDC-managed projects will be at risk. He also asked the relevant authorities to develop a practical plan for the merger and the newly merged department’s business policies.

It is critical to note that PLDC was established in 2010 and was entrusted with developing and maintaining low-cost housing programmes in Punjab. Later, the government established PHATA as a new body with the same goals in 2019.
