Lahore: The Punjab government has removed the closing time restrictions imposed on the markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, allowing the traders and shopkeepers to avail this relaxation till July 9, according to news published on July 3.

The decision was taken by Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Hamza Shehbaz to facilitate both public and the trade community. The minister stated that this relaxation will make it easy for businesses to operate round the clock ahead of Eid.
It is pertinent to note that the government decided to close markets, business centres, and bazaars throughout the province by 9 PM on June 18. It was part of the government’s plan to address the issue of power shortage.

Moreover, CM Hamza Shehbaz directed the concerned officials to establish a control room and get a third-party audit of the cleanliness plan for Eid. The Lahore Commissioner and Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) briefed the minister on the cleanliness arrangements for Eid-ul-Azha and the drainage situation in anticipation of monsoon rain spells.
