Lahore: The Punjab government decided to lease industrial plots to foreign investors instead of selling industrial land to them, according to news published on December 15. The said decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Aslam Iqbal.

As per the sources, the foreign investors will now be able to utilise industrial lands in Punjab as the provincial government has made this decision to promote industrialization and support the economic growth of the region. To lease industrial land in Punjab, a comprehensive and appealing policy will be developed through consultation.

The meeting also reviewed concerns about industrial colonization, plot pricing and infrastructure provision. Minister Iqbal highlighted that Punjab’s Special Economic Zones (SEZ) are engines of economic development and should be industrialised on priority. He opined that fast-track industrialization will lead to new employment opportunities. The minister also said that an agreement will be inked with the buyers of the industrial estate plots and that local investors should be promoted. Moreover, he ordered a special audit and renovation of the Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company to be conducted. He stated that infrastructure provision in industrial estates and the industrialisation process should be hastened.
